George..."I screamed Goal the loudest"

So it was you that I heard across the USA!!!

Okay, we disagree on the referee.
A referee at that level and age should not be tense.

The purpose of the referee is make sure that the game is
played according to the rules and the "spirit" of the rules.
Interpretation and good judgement is necessary.
IMO - The purpose would have been served to give Beckham a yellow
card and thus make him more cautious, in his actions, not to receive
a second yellow card. (This opinion also holds for Kluivert and Zidane
incidents). I believe the desired result would have occurred.

England would have played a more aggressive game and thus allowing
Argentina to play a more open offense. We, as fans, would have been
rewarded with a more exiting game. The game might not have been
decided on PK's.

In pure speculation one could surmise that the two penalty kicks, the red card, and the 3rd goal for England where an attempt for the
referee to leave his mark on the game. Of course, one will never
know. I'm sure this is the talk in many pubs now.

It is therefore, I believe these questionable calls take away
some of the credit, deserved by both teams, for their performance.
