Spots,

I remember the controversy with ATI and matrox video cards with gateway. The matrox issue was totally blown out of proportion. The think the OEM's have learned the errors of their ways because I haven't seen anything like this in almost three years. I makes no sesnse for them financially to do this....

I was unaware of micron's financial difficulties. due to dram pricing?? for me, its never been a concern. They have been in business over 25 years and have been buiying their PC's since they started making them about 5 years ago. To me all three are about equal, you can find a horror story for all of them but in my experience dealing with them on hundreds of purchases I find them to generally be excellent and low hassle compared to some others...

They key is to get the mixture of price/performance/features/components that you want for your given situation. These companies all move quickly and agressively and the answer will change on a week to week basis. Last customer the answer was gateway, 2 weeks earlier it was dell, a month before that it was
micron. It pays to configure similar boxes with all three and watch them all for a week or two and then buy.

BTW: Good rule of thumb. never buy the latest and greatest machine during the first 60 days. Too many initial headaches with manufacturing problems, firmware adjustments, etc. This is not a problem for the casual home user.

One further note is that Micron and Gateway both sell under $1500 pc's where dell avoids that market like the plague.
