Best England performance I've ever seen. They made a strong Argentine side look mediocre. It's such a shame they met so early on. Unfortunately, the record books will only remember that England exited in the second round. What a game though.

Owen made all the difference, pulling the Argentine defence all over the place. They panicked every time he got the ball. Sol Campbell was immense at the back, and Paul Ince played his heart out, winning tackle after tackle.

True, Batty has never taken a penalty in his life, and was a fool for volunteering. Scholes and Anderton should have stayed on, and both are better penalty takers than Batty and Ince.

Beckham betrayed his team by kicking out, and he will have to remember that moment for the rest of his life. The abuse he will get from supporters next season will be merciless (and he already gets plenty). England won several free kicks after the sending off that were at Beckham's shooting distance. I don't think the game would have got to penalties if Beckham had stayed on.

This team is full of young kids that will improve even beyond this. Owen, Scholes, Beckham, Neville will all be around for the next WC.
I can't wait for the premier league to start again, though will Beckham be a broken man??
