I think the original intent of the 2nd Amendment has been negated by changes in society and technology. A free press is much more effective in moderating government. Ask Richard Nixon.

Re-iterating a point someone else made: when organising a coup d'etat, primary targets include TV and Radio stations.

I don't agree. The government, if so inclined, will always outgun you.

I have to disagree. I would prefer a shotgun for home defense. If I really needed a handgun to feel safe when I leave my house, I would emigrate.
