I am not convinced at all that viagra should be withdrawn, but it should be tested and its use regulated much
more thorougly than appears to be happening at the moment, to protect those individuals in society that react
deleteriously to it. The retinal problems are particularly worrying. Pfizer is a wealthy company that spends a lot
on research - they have the resources to test drugs in a detailed and competent fashion.>>

DaiS please get the proper information before you condemn PFE. PFE has done extensive research on Viagra's side effects, by not only studying thousands of individuals, but also testing the drug on susceptible populations. PFE like other large pharmaceutical co. has the resources to satisfactorily test new compounds but no company has the resources to test millions of people in the hopes that their drug is 100% safe. 100% assurances cannot be attained and they never will be. If all drug companies followed your advice you could pretty much be resigned to the fact that no new drugs will ever hit the market. It would just be too costly.

BTW your argument on the death rate needs some more thought. All one can do in research is to compare similar population groups with and without the test compound and see whether there is a statistically significant difference. As I said above PFE has tested the drug on the target population which definately included men with health concerns and there was no increase in death rates. Therefore your argument that the very low death rates might be masking a serious problem is unwarranted. Bottom line is that the FDA convened a special panel to look at Viagra's collection of reported side effects, some of which were duplicate reports, and found nothing troubling. I trust the FDA will make the proper and informed decision(s) and at this time Viagra is declared SAFE.
