I know of plenty of companies (several of my clients included) that are addressing their Y2K problem by replacing their financial (and other) systems rather than try to fix what they have. The complexity from the user's standpoint with these systems is orders of magnitude removed from engineers doing chip design on high end CAD workstations. There are only so many pieces of information from an invoice that need to be entered into an accounts payable system, for example. If the fields get moved around on the screen, the data entry folks will adapt pretty easily. Many companies also piggyback redesigned workflow onto the system conversion. This allows them to make their internal processes more efficient, and also matches their workflow to the requirements of the new software. This takes a bit more training, but is still a relatively straightforward task.
