The way it felt was like you were writing "parenting (sorry Alex, but you're wrong)". I guess I'll have to ask why you valuate "parenting" as an excellent word choice hen (imho of ocourse) "being a parent" is waay superior. This business of "verbing" nouns <sound of grinding molars> strikes me as the tip of an iceberg. The ice is made of a sort of institutional apathy shown by our guardians of the language (like radio and newspapers) toward the aesthetics of American English. Okay, so this is my crusade. But I am passionate about it. I was hoping that around here you would temporarily abandon that illegitimate, disowned progeny of a noun and a verb. If not, simply saying "parenting" without the parenthetic dismissal would have been actually less of a provocation. At least taht's how it looks from this side of the screen.
Ok, end of rant. Y'all can come back out and play now :-)
