Rudy, I spoke to a manager at a local electronics retailer about Compaq profit margins. He said that the store's markup is small -- about 18% - 25% (which corresponds to COGS of 80% - 85%). This number does not include commissions. He confirmed that the chain buys directly from Compaq. BUT he also confirmed the fact that the store never sees the discounts given to the customer, and that is all taken at the corporate level (including coop advertising).
