If I do buy Blue-Chip it is based on how the company will deal with the challenges and opportunities ahead of it.

The one with the biggest long-term capital growth I would predict is NOVL which I would predict will see the mid $20s by Q1 1999. That would be a huge percentage gain. It has a very strict new focus. It doesnt want to compete with MSFT - instead since there is so much inferiority on MSFT software, NOVL products will wrap itself around MSFT - NDS being the key product. It has a President and CTO that are the founders/leaders in JAVA and CORBA. This will further push the NOVL recovery. For the investor, big money to be made on this stock.

I think once CPQ successfully merges DEC into its fold (which will be painful over the next few months) we will see a good capital growth there. But not until mid next year.

I think Intel has some troubled times ahead of it as well with the Asia problem and delays in the Merceds chip opening the door for its competitors. But if it goes low enough it might be a good fire-sale for long term growth.

IBM is being hurt a bit by Asia as well, but because of its huge diverse plays in the industry and its big push into E@Commerce, this is a low risk stable growth bucket to put your investment into until MSFT were to crawl through their rough times.

On a general note, look for open-industry-standard internet start-ups have some good potential. Java-based application developers be a high risk/high reward play.

I see Netscape eventually being bought by someone - the guess is "who?".

I think Sun also has some stagnent times ahead. Similar to MSFT, there is a good likihood that Sun will not be focused enough on its place in the industry and be too distracted fighting with MSFT.

These are some of my guesses.
