Mr. Chief, I had several courses in Geology but I'm no expert by any means. It appears that the Cangalli region is quite steep and mountainous and the local geology is, nevertheless, well understood. Mountainous regions have an distinct advantage in understanding its geology as compared to flat areas as many layers of geologic time can be read by simply moving up and down the mountain and maping exposed rock and comparing the location of outcroppings. GE has extensive mine shafts in the Cangalli from which they have data from. It would be relatively simple process to match up this data taken from the mine shafts(certain rock type, thickness, age vs. depth) with that of the steeply sloping surface. I believe a very accurate 3-D representation can be obtained this way without drilling a single hole and this is probably the method used by Guido.
This question which keeps coming up again about trenching etc. vs drilling is rather silly in this case as the answer is obvious.
