Alex, when were you allowed to date? As I recall, you have at least one sister, so when did your parents allow her to go out alone with a boy? Since you have described your parents as conservative, and this is an area in which I, too, am leaning to the right, it would be helpful for me to know.

I told my daughter that I was asking my friends on the net for guidance on the appropriate age girls could go out on dates, since she and I have outgrown all my child care books. I told her I had thought sixteen was about right, but wasn't sure. She gave me a peculiar look, and said, "well, it had better not be too much later than sixteen!"

If I were you, I would keep an eye on your friend's four-year-old who has a crush on sweet, innocent Baby Helen. While a car seat will keep them apart, I wouldn't let them play unsupervised or anything. My daughter's second cousin Willie was only four when a neighbor returned him home from a play date and said he was no longer welcome, because he had taken all his clothes off except his underwear and was making sexual moves on her little daughter.
