Does this 440GX chipset run at 100MHz bus or still 66?

Barry - Re: ": It will only be a matter of time before Xeon makes its way into the mainstream, or at least the more performance-conscious part of the mainstream"

Slot 2 motherboards are already available from third parties such as Tyan.

Tyan Announces Dual Slot 2 Motherboard; New Model Offers
Workstation-Class Performance with Two Intel Pentium II Xeon
Processors and Numerous Other High Performance Features

Business Wire - June 30, 1998 10:49

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 1998--Tyan Computer Corp. today announced the Thunder X (S1952DLU) a dual Slot 2 motherboard that supports two Intel Pentium(R) II Xeon(TM) processors.

The new board is designed in an industry standard ATX form factor identical to Intel's Marlinspike Slot 2 motherboard.

The Thunder X is designed for maximum expandability with five 32-bit PCI Bus Master slots, one shared ISA slot and one AGP slot. The board features a built-in twin channel Ultra2 Wide SCSI controller (Adaptec
AIC7896) with LVD support, as well as two UDMA/33 IDE ports. This provides outstanding performance and expandability in the storage subsystem.

"The Thunder X will greatly extend Tyan's leadership position in system boards for high performance workstations and with its integrated Ultra2 SCSI controller, will significantly out-perform any Intel based workstation platform currently on the market," according to Dr. Symon Chang, Tyan chairman and CEO.

Based on the Intel 440GX AGPset, the Thunder X is also Tyan's first motherboard to support up to 2GB of PC/100 SDRAM. Combined with the Pentium II Xeon's full speed level 2 cache, this will give memory
performance that rivals RISC workstations.

Other features include Super I/O support; AMI Plug 'n' Play BIOS; and advanced system management features such as LM81 sensor chips with on-board alarm to monitor fans, temperature and voltage levels.
Intel's LANDesk Client Manager software is also included.

The Thunder X will be available in volume by mid August. Beta samples are available to OEMs now. OEM pricing in 1,000 piece quantities will be below $600.
