First, Libertarians do not believe in social programs ie - welfare.

I know that. That's why I pointed it out.

Second if they legalize.. say Heroine, are you gonna do it? If your answer is no, what makes you think everyone else will start.</O?

At no point did I say that. But I did say there will be an increase and I firmly believe that. Compare European statistics on alcohol abuse with American statistics. I've seen them and will try to get the numbers.

Third you are grouping all drug users
into a category and this is totally wrong.

That was not my intention. My intention was to show that an increase in drugs will, in turn, increase the size of the welfare state.

I personally know dozens of drug users that have never been fired from a job, never received welfare, and do not harm others. Those who destroy their lives on drugs are those that would destroy their lives on gambling, sex, alcohol, the stock market (LOL) etc...... It is in their personality.

That is not true. A new study shows that there is a chemical that is released from the brain that causes people to be addictive. This same chemical is found in chocolate.

I was an Alateen instructor for awhile, and I can tell you that most of the people I know don't understand why they can't stop drinking. My father was addicted to alcohol, but was a gambler and stock market player very infrequently. Many (not all) of the people I've dealt with were only addicted to the one substance: alcohol.

You nievity is showing. Check out the real world.

I am a communitarian, HRAKA, and communitarians believe that you are the product of where you came from. There is no such thing as inherent human nature save what you received where you came from. I am not a postmodernist by any stretch of the imagination.

Please understand that I have seen "my" real world, and have assessed it as I see fit. If, perchance, you don't agree with my assessment of "my" real world, feel free to come to New Hampshire, live a few years in my shoes, and disprove me. I see drugs and alcohol fly around everywhere at college (the largest percentage of users) all around me, and yet, I stick to my beliefs.

To write it off as a person being naive is a shortcoming on your part. This isn't a flame, HRAKA. This is my belief you are talking about, and that's why I put my disclaimers stating that discussing beliefs on the internet is not productive.

I am not you by any stretch of the imagination. You are not me. The only thing holding you and I together is the ideology that our country's fathers pushed on us 200 years ago. And the weaker that state becomes, the more that factions dictate what roles government should play.

Weak federal state + strong factions = most of Africa

The state must be strong. There must be some progressive measures to maintain ideology, and we must all adhere or fight to change it.

Lincoln died for that belief.
