No. I would support a mandate requiring everyone to be trained prior to the age of 16 which would accomplish the same thing but in a different manner. It could be viewed with as much importance as sex education IMO. Both are just as deadly these days.

Firearms safety courses should also be taught in school for every student, may help reduce accidents. Many states require hunter safety courses before a hunting license may be issued. However, I don't think that any training other than psychiatric help would have prevented the recent school shootings. Unfortunately, blatant firearm abuse will always occur, just like driving abuse.
