When do you see chip sales turning around? In mid-'97 I heard '98. Now I'm hearing '99.

Greetings thread -- on June 22 I posted info from an AP report indicating that semiconductor sales were projected to increase over the next few years. Whether or not that turns out to be true, certainly today's action in Atmel shows that someone out there believes Atmel is capable of turning around: it has recovered pretty well today, an indication that perhaps the bad news has been factored in to the stock price. In any case, let's remember that management is trying to move away from commodity chips and into higher margin profit areas; so far they haven't shown results. I expect a technical rebound and believe that we will need some definite signs of improvement before the stock price takes off again. One or two quarters may not be enough. On the other hand, if/when the psychology changes, we know this stock can move quickly. I'm long the stock and, if some of my other stocks continue to do well, I may switch some of that money into more Atmel. I believe management's acquisitions and recently announced plans will eventually be reflected in a higher stock price. But it may very well take some time. Cheers/t
