PC, The price would have nothing to do with closing of books, as the trade could not clear fast enough to be included in the quarterly results no matter what, even using the shortest sellers' option.

Not knowing the stock, it just sounds like somebody was eager to dump a big block, and that could be for any number of reasons. It was obviously not a short sale on that downtick, so it had to be an owner. Any idea on the volume. These big blocks often trade after the bell because there are fewer market makers and specialists willing to sleep overnight with a position just for the fun of screwing up the trade. But it looks like the broker took his pound of flesh to print it.
