Wow! I wonder who big this OEM deal is? How many cards are they getting from Diamond? Will this make Diamond stop complaining about inventories etc.? How will it effect the stock tomorrow? Well, there are some questions for discussion. I would love to hear what you guys think.

RE: The Micron OEM deal

I thought this was old news too. Am I wrong about this? Is this major news?

The Micron Press Release

This is a good press release. It does a lot of selling in the background.

My Analysis of Press Release Skills Employed
1) "3Dfx Interactive(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: TDFX) today announced that Micron will ..."
A 3DFX press release initiative. Good. Our guy demonstrates that he will act. If you think we are sexy, we are on Nasdaq under TDFX for immediate bonding.

2) "Micron will adopt its Voodoo2(TM) chipset ..."
Well, actually it was a Micron/Diamond deal. Also it was a board deal, not a chip set deal. But, creating an atmosphere in which OEMs adopt our chipsets, even though by proxy, sounds very good considering that we have this new Banchee chip set. Psychological warfare skills in evidence here. Good.

3) " for select models of the Millennia line of high-end desktop PCs from Micron ..."
Not to be installed in Micron's front line models. Probably only a minor share of Micron's business. But, emphasis is nicely redirected toward the fact that the machines featuring our product are high end models, which in effect endorses our product as adding prestige to a portion of an OEM's line. Other OEMs with prestige products: Take Note!

4) "Rather than just serve as a PC graphics chipset,"
We are a chip set, but, by golly, we are more than a mere chip set like those others floating about. Good. We must be thought of differently.

5) "the Voodoo(TM) architecture is developed specifically for 3D gaming and to serve as the technology engine for a consumer 3D platform."
Goose bumps all over me. Like the flag on the 4th. We may be called a chipset but we are a high tech dynamically engineered platform in our own right, by Jingo.

6) " ... over 250 3D games supporting the 3Dfx Interactive gaming platform are available ..."
We are not vapor ware, we are real. We are whats happening, baby!

7) "... including games developed exclusively for the 3Dfx platform." Sounds like Game Companies take us seriously, you should too. Actually, you may have to buy our product anyway in order to play those games. We are bad, like Microsoft (PE = 60x), don't ya' know.

8) " In addition, Voodoo2 has Microsoft WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certification."
Speaking of which, they know us. We are that close!

9) ''Micron has made the strongest choice in selecting Voodoo2 ..."
Thats us! Oh, and also "Diamond's Monster 3D II board". With out us, they could not have had such a wonderful board to close a deal on. In all modesty, we can't take all the credit here. (But, at least we try. Thats good.)

10) ''The increasing acceptance of Voodoo2 by OEM system manufacturers is an indication of 3D gaming's growing momentum."
Actually, all our OEMs are 3d game board manufacturers at present, but please feel free to mentally associate us with computer manufacturing OEMs too.

11) "The OEM market is an important avenue for continuing the dramatic growth of the 3Dfx PC game platform.''
Yes, I know, and it shows. We are so in with those OEMs. Just can't hide it. They are all over us.

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm all turned on and ready to bond.

Hal

Good catch Steve! This Micron deal is good news. I loved Hal's interpretation of what it means - good job. Bottom line: Probably not a ton of material impact, but GREAT PR for the company (and hopefully a portent of things to come)!
