Interesting post, though as a historical parallel it's a BIG non sequitur - the financial markets were structurally far different in 1929. And in 1929 the Federal Reserve actually precipitated the crash through its own policies. It was government (the Fed), not capitalism, that caused the crash.

Milton Friedman has a good chapter on the causes of the depression in "Capitalism and Freedom" and also, I believe, in "Free to Choose". Let's hope Greenspan hasn't forgotten the lessons of that Nobel laureate.
