I disagree. Many people believe in the Libertarian "theory", but are frightened of the wrenching changes that would result from immediate institution of our beliefs. For that reason alone, it will be impossible for Libertarians to ever go mainstream...unless we approach the issue practically.
Ayn Rand said as much in several of her writings. She also feared that "watering down" was a slippery slope that would prevent full implementation. That is a danger, but one that has to be regarded as a necessary danger in order to garner greater acceptance...
Politics are reality...if you don't want to deal in reality, then the Libertarian Party will forever remain the marginal party it currently is. People STILL laugh when I mention Libertarian beliefs. It is still the party of radicals and "potheads"...until it starts to provide practical steps to get from point A to point B...people will not sign on in #'s big enough to matter.
Brown is wrong. 200,000 isn't enough. 2,000,000 and he'd have a shot. As a practical man, even he knows that.
