New mIRC Version

All,

Just a reminder that there is a new mIRC at the download site ... Version 5.4

geocities.com

It is worth downloading and installing as there are 170 bug fixes and minor changes.

John

PS - Today I downloaded and installed a little program that speeded up my internet packet transfers on Win 98 between 50 and 100 percent. It seems that the default winsock values in Windows are a compromise to allow access via lans, etc as well as modems.

hotfiles.zdnet.com

This program does change the Win 95/98 register, but I didn't have any trouble myself. However, it is freeware, so use it at your own risk.

It is important to write down the default windows values when you first load it, in case you want to restore them.

Based on what I was told by MBT last week, no, they do not count towards the various trading thresholds.

Some other stuff:
- a separate account is needed although no add'l fee is required for that account, just add'l paperwork; a phone call or email to MBT gets you the paperwork
- you need to split your resources so that you have funds in both accts to cover your trading needs and you need to allow for an 'overnight' to journal funds between the two accounts
- option trades are via telephone only for now; eventually we'll be able to place them online although they're not sure when yet
