BigKNY3, thank you for enlightening me...If The Public Citizen group is a legitimate organization with a solid record of credibility, I guess we can trust that they will use common sense and rational analysis of a hugely successful medication that is being sought worldwide...I hope so, but I see VLAD salivating in anticipation of tomorrow's effect on PFE, so I don't know how this group will act...However, the points of contention they have raised, as you explain them to me, appear to be reasonable areas of concern if they are presented with the real world in mind..We do not live in a perfect world..There are no perfect drugs (or watchdog groups)...Thank you for your post...I deeply appreciate it...

Public Citizen is basically saying that impotence is often caused by other drugs that simply need a dosage adjustment and that Viagra is being used in some patients with cardiovascular disorders that were not included in the original 4,700 Viagra Phase II and Phase III patients.

Even if another drug caused the impotence, it may still be safe and effective (for most of the 60 drugs mentioned) to take Viagra to counter the side effect of the other drug. In many cases lowering the dosage of the other drug might reduce impotence but will also reduce the effectiveness of the drug. So one should not conclude that anyone taking any of the 60 drugs should avoid Viagra, even if the drug is causing the impotence.

Richard

U.S. States Told to Cover Viagra Under Medicaid, WSJ Reports

U.S. states have been notified by federal health officials that they must pay for Pfizer Inc.'s impotence drug Viagra under their Medicaid
programs, the on-line edition of the Wall Street Journal
reported, citing a letter from Nancy-Ann DeParle, the
administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration, to
Governors Lawton Chiles of Florida and Michael Leavitt of Utah.
The federal government may drop the requirement if a new system
set up by the HCFA to monitor Viagra shows the drug ''is subject
to clinical abuse or inappropriate use,'' .
