Dale, <But what about the business side.> I am no expert in business. Therefore you may want to discount my amateurish opinions. Unfortunately, each of your short questions would require rather lengthy analysis to support my answers/beliefs, so let me be concise. <your aversion to Intel is so great> Yes, I believe the Intel monopoly in PC market does no good for technical progress. Their convulsive half-baked "innovation-for-outcompetition" hurts PC industry; see also your "..Intel appears to have been a bit heavy handed in their dealings with...". <you will invest in AMD in hopes that AMD can hurt Intel> They already did. Monopolistic profit margins will always attract challengers; near two years ago I felt that the AMD's time has come. <or do you see AMD as a truly viable alternative?> As I noticed before, in-house design technology gives AMD many more chances, this is not an old "cloning" game. At least for desktop PC sector I believe that AMD processors will dominate. <Do you think AMD can flourish (not just survive) at some point?> I hope that at some point AMD will gain enough market share to balance their finances. After breaking Intel's monopoly (if so) the highly competitive CPU business will be probably not too "flourishing" for all parties, but should be better than in commodities. <have you considered AMD's cash crunch> I believe that until AMD will continue to offer competitive alternative CPUs, the industry will support AMD in all possible forms. <are you concerned AMD will collapse anytime soon (within 6 months).> For the above reasons I think it is highly unlikely. However, my position in AMD is small and I am not doing this for living. Being currently inside the PC industry, I am just having some fun in arguing with Intel stalwarts, especially on technical matters. It also helps me to practice in proper(?) debating skills in English, as well as learn some stock market mass psychology. I hope I have satisfied your curiosity.
