Paul, I think nobody understands Euro...At least I have'nt stumble on any coherent ideology about it... Kohl's motives at least are transparent, as he is fighting to stay at the helm (no chance according to German's to be re-elected though) but Euro battle is behind him and at least he is going down history as chief architect of Euro for better or worse... Totally agree on French..But anti-American stance (a must for a French politicians) is IMO a no substitute for anything but a leading role for France in the eyes of the World and certainly Europe...can't see Kohl gaining upper hand over French in ego arena...
