Gene - re: "CompUSA warns, "

Look on the bright side - there may be a real demand for Intel's Mobile Pentium II that Intel cannot keep up with!

"Halpin said declines in the average selling price for desktop and notebook computers and monitors as well as a shortage of notebooks using Intel Corp. (INTC - news) Pentium II chips also hurt sales. "

Re: CompUSA warns, see's loss between 15 and 20 cents.

I'm curious what the reputation of CompUSA is in other parts of the country. Here in St. Louis, customer service is terrible - lots of out-of-stock merchandise, long lines at checkout, wrong prices ringing up, and an unattractive store interior. I'm wondering if CompUSA's bad quarter may in part be due to loss of customers to competitors. Computer City and Best Buy are better in this area, and the two Gateway Country stores are getting a lot of traffic (don't know how much people are actually buying, though).
