At the New York meeting, Dr. Markman had Portico access his voice mail in-box. He asked for the first message to be read. It was from someone he did not want to hear from and interrupted the message by saying "throw it out". The message terminated immediately and Portico asked if he wanted to hear the next message.

I would think that an e-mail would work in a similar fashion. I noticed no delay, and was sort of taken by surprise as to how quick the reaction time was. My experience would seem to bear out what you are stating. I don't understand the underlying technological concepts, but I do know first hand that it worked as you have stated.
