Robert
Thank you for sharing your past with me. I am sincerely happy that you have found peace and a more centered life through Christianity.

Awhile ago, on this thread, I gave a similar account of my life. I certainly dont want to bore anyone with the details(again:-) ) so I will just give a very brief synopsis.

My father died when I was ten years old. I was the oldest sibling and for the most part had complete freedom to do whatever I wanted from that time forward, due to the fact that my mother had more than she could handle. Like any kid, I severely abused the privilege. By the time I was in seventh grade, I was either drinking or getting high on a daily basis. It was not rare for me to not come home. I was in a lot of pain, and had no release for it other than partying and having fun.

It wasnt until later in my life that I started to find some peace.
Other than my wife and kids, the biggest reason for that peace has come from a self-study of spirituality. Even at a young age, I coouldn't understand how organized religion could be so exclusive.
I was born a Jew and couldnt understand how, if Judiasim wa sthe one true religion, why did some kid in bangledesh with virtually no chance of becoming Jewish, have to born at such a disadvantage? Where is the equity in that, and how could I respect a God that was not at the very least equitable?

Anyway, I am not going to make this a long essay on my feelings of spirituality and how I came to them. My point is, that many people with many different feelings and beliefs in God, have made their way back from the blink of oblivion through that belief in God. It is not limited to Christianity.

There is a book that I have mentioned before on this thread, called Tying Rocks to Clouds. I can't remember the name of the author, unfortunately. You might enjoy the book. It is about a man who made his way back from the brink, and was able to eventually dedicate his life to finding a true path(for him). This man, interviewed a very diverse group of people(Mother Thearesa, The Dali LLama, Ram Dass,
Billy Graham, Elizabeth Kubler Ross, and many other people) and aske d them all the same dozen or so questions. The results are very interesting and I think you would personally enjoy the book, and be able to relate to many aspects of it.

Mark

I debated as to whether I should respond to your post, but in the ended decided, why not.

I enjoyed reading your post. Actually, I very much enjoy reading these types of posts where a person will humble himself before the masses and admit that his or her life was a sham without the Light that finally made it worth living.

I wish there were more such posts on this thread. Even more so, how ones faith in God through Jesus has helped them to overcome one struggle or another. I think that debating this or that is fine to a point, but it seems to me there is a need to show others that even through adversity, faith wins out. I just don't think folks can understand the "why" without seeing examples from other people's lives.

Well anyway, very much enjoyed reading this particular post.

Those who know.......know.

Robert,

Interesting testimony which relates the difference between religion and relationship, thank you for sharing it. It's sad when someone can hear about how a soul made peace with God and then turn around and say how they have found their fullfillment as well , BUT GOD IS NOT THEIR SOURCE!!! That should be enough to send chills down the spine of any child of God.

God said He chastens every son he receives and if they are not chastened then they are bastards. This word means fatherless. In other words God is not their father, and if God is not their father then it means the devil is, and this lifetime which is so brief is the only joy they shall ever experience. NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL BEING GIVEN OVER!!!

May God give you the boldness as you continue to declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ

Chris
