JC, I have no articles to quote from, just the facts. On the NYSE volume is volume. On the Nasdaq both buys and sells are counted so volume is mistated. Is there a difference between the market maker system and the specialist system? Of course. I have friends who are specialists on the NYSE. They have an important role. When I approached Zev about allowing me time before the board to discuss AMEX listing he said they were happy with the Nasdaq for now. He doesn't know why it's a better system and I doubt the board really cares to take the time to find out. But to answer your question, yes the market maker system is a more corruptable system. When the mms get out of the way the stock can fall very fast.
