Trouble brewing at Ascend??????.......<Ascend Commu Exec VP -2: Smith Resigns Effective July 6 ALAMEDA, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Ascend Communications Inc. (ASND) named Hassan Ahmed executive vice president and general manager of its core systems unit. In a press release Tuesday, the company said Ahmed was vice president and general manager, core switching. Ahmed replaces Daniel E. Smith, who is resigning from the company and the board of directors, effective July 6. Ascend also named Federal Communications Commission Chairman Reed E. Hundt a director.
