While you are correct that there are all types of managers, and DELL 'may' have some that are not as astute as others, I see no indication that bad decisions have been made, save the short lived DELL Store, and the first Notebook (Laptop) that didn't work to expectations.

With the BTO-JIT model, I wonder how much 'management' is required after the process is in place? Shift scheduling? Lunch breaks? Vacation scheduling?

What do the 'managers' manage in this model?
