George, tend to agree with you assessment. Antibiotic resistant Staphylococcus is often in the news. This could be the source of the gram positive stance. Ignores TB, blood poisoning, other sources of nosocomial infection. Biostock posted a possible answer at Yahoo! as follows: I will try to answer but be forewarned these are only my homemade opinions on the matter. Let's get started by quick review. LPS is part of gram neg cell wall....it is not an organism. All the endotoxin label means it is capable of kicking off immune system inflammatory cascade. LPS does this by binding to LPB which can signal CD14 that is attached to macrophages. When LBP/LPS complement signals CD14.....that is the trigger for tnf. When tnf is kicked off....watch out!!!. So when BPI attaches to LPS....there is less LPS for LBP. I am not going into detail of LBP at this time. Now remember I am interested in BPI because of it's name. They didn't name it as an anti-inflammatory now did they? NO, NO, NO, they named it Bacterial permeability increasing protein.....because that is what its main job is. I bought Xoma for its potential to be SYNERGISTIC WITH ANTIBIOTICS, NOT as a antisepsis drug. Now if you will look to research Xoma has done we see activity of BPI against not only GRAM POSITIVE and GRAM Negative bacterium but also certain fungus. As far as picture of bacterium in annual report, that bacterium shown is TOAST.....if you think that bacterium shown is going to survive the assault as evidenced.....well then I can't help you. But, yes, it would of been neat to see sequential pictures.....maybe Xoma will supply them. But let's forget all of this high brow stuff for a minute...the proof is in the pudding. So we have the Schlag study with Baboons, then we have saving 25 out of 26 humans in Phase I/II Meningo. and we have breezed through DSMB look sees in PhaseIII Meningo. Hope this helps and remember we might not get approval which may have devastating effects on the stock price. Once again Biotechs are for the big boys and girls. If you think any of you will get the AL syndrome from losing money in stocks....maybe you should just stay away from Biotechs. One last thing; these are just one man's feeble attempt to explain in simple terms BPI. Only my opinions. Biotechs are speculative....you could lose money investing in them.
