So RudeDog, it sounds like in many points we do agree. Where we part paths is that I believe that for the next 2 years starting this summer (after the WIN98 release hype simmers down - whch from all the trade press appears that it wont take too long) the MSFt stock price will start to decline back into the 80s (and possibly even lower).

Today's news on ZDnet stated that PC makers are telling customers to delay installing Win98 until MSFT releases bug fixes and Bios fixes. Front Page of Canada Computing had the heading "MSFT releases WIN98 - but who really cares?".

So we will see if MSFT will be hurting over the next 2 years or not.

Your last paragraph says it all. It is not who has the best tech. A little company called OCOM proved that today when it admitted it could not sell the most superior cost effective vieo conferencing system bar none. If one can't market the product than forget the technical superiority.

Well said sir.

MSFT still has a long way to go to achieve the level of reliability and capability to tackle those jobs. But it would be a mistake to think that they will not address the problem eventually, or that their revenue plans count on that market any time soon.

Yes, this is the key point. Microsoft is in the game for the long haul. They have tremendous human and capital resources and stability of management. They are like the Terminator - no fear, no greed, and they won't stop until the objective is accomplished.
