sb, price isn't the main issue in Mexico relative to Dell vs. CPQ since you can purchase a comparable version of Dell for under $1200 (relative to Compaq's offering)and comparable in price to Compaq's. the main issue is marketing and affordability. Compaq offers a business lease program to select customers. i.e., if you're large enough you qualify. Dell's lease program is for all business sizes, as long as you qualify financially. when you buy a CPQ in Mexico you generally pay cash at the well, and figure out the rest with your bank. it seems logical that Dell's lease program would be big deal, market wise in Mexico, given the growing Mexican propensity for credit.

you probably already know all this
Dell is currently committing to extensive marketing campaigns in mexico and latin america according to their CFO. guess we'll have to wait around and see if the campaign pays off. we know what they've done in the U.S. (Dell ranks about 4th in Canada - so they have some catching up to do there as well) the CFO did state that demand in latin america is increasing beyond what they had envisioned and that they were planning on building a plant, probably in Brazil, by next year.
