Craig,

What type of digital camera are you using? Have you noticed the file sizes on the highest resolution/minimally compressed mode and are you happy with the image quality?

I share your concerns about write times. Somebody posted a release on this board describing the new 60 MB CF card SanDisk has in the works and it does not have sufficient speed to be useful in digital photography. Perhaps we should call and ask if R&D has made inroads regarding this problem. Lexar has claimed write speeds upto 1.6 MB/sec and SSTI stated they are capable of 1.4 MB/sec. SanDisk's top speeds are still less than 1 MB/sec.

Finally, risk is inherent to any investment. If you wish to call it gambling, then it is gambling. The annual report spells out these risks in black and white with little left to the imagination. Having said that, some people who believed strongly in SNDK despite these risks have sold their positions, some have paper losses and some are waiting for the opportune time to jump in. Each person makes a decision based on their interpretation of these same facts. Now the integrity of the management has been called into question and this is an intangible. I expressed my disbelief regarding the timing and content of the press releases several weeks ago. It has shaken my confidence as well. My only objection is the tone and accusations in some of the emotionally charged and decidedly negative posts lately. It has taken away from the experience of logging on to SI. I just think we need some balance.

Ausdauer, I don't yet have a digital camera. I'm from the Nikon school and today's consumer e-cams don't meet the standard. I'm waiting for 2+ megapixels under $1,000 and $2/MB memory before I buy.

I do own an S-VHS camcorder and will have a full-motion video card sometime next week. At ~500 lines of resolution, it will be like taking 30 pictures per second with a Mavicka!

Someday someone will make a beltholder with a 4GB hard drive and a CF slot. Every 100 pictures or so you will insert the CF card, wait a minute, and then be ready to shoot another 100 stills. I can't wait until someone invites me to view their vacation photos ... all 15,000 of them :-(

Which camera did you choose?

Craig

PS Don't sweat the tone of the email here. On some SI threads, calling someone a "farging icehole" is a compliment.
