"Sane Strategies for the Schizoid Tech Sector"

As for semiconductors, Ron Elijah, manager of the Robertson
Stephens Value + Growth fund, predicts that they will
bottom by mid-August. But some think the thrill isn't with
Intel anymore. A recent Merrill Lynch report by analysts
Joseph Osha and Thomas Kurlak asserts that the "industry
is in a fundamental shift away from the personal computer as
the most important driver of semiconductor revenue growth"
and recommends chipmakers like Broadcom and LSI Logic,
which sell to the manufacturers of networking and
communication equipment (for more on such companies, see
Watch This Space). Drew Peck at Cowen & Co. favors
Analog Devices and Texas Instruments, which make chips
for cell phones and digital cameras.
