I think the one improvement in the core of the MediaGX which would be take the least amount of effort, and bring the most bang would be to replace M1 core with M2 core, including the 64K L1. I think they already use MMX and FP units from 6x86 MX, so why not bring in the rest of it. But I don't know if the M2 design inherently limits clock speeds, or if just the present implementation on not so great .35u process limits that the speed.

I think MediaGX with M2 core at 300 MHz would rock. It would probably keep pace with Mendocino at 300 MHz, exceeding performance in all apps except Quake, falling way short in Quake performance.
