To intimate that it is just marketing and reputation and not performance is bunk. You are suggesting that MIL spec devices are merely selected common parts? Very wise of you to make this observation.
By carefully selecting dogs that are shot at we will be able to select a group bullet proof dogs to run messages through enemy lines.. All you need is a large enough starting cohort.

There is at least a one other major difference - Full Mil. Spec 883 devices are subject to 168 hours of burn in at 125 C .

This in itself is a costly step with attendant paperwork and logistical concerns for performing these operations.
