For anyone who got shares of NYNEX during the break-up of AT&T and was in NYNEX dividend reinvestment I have a question (if you still had your NYNEX shares when it got taken over by Bell Atlantic):

Computing the cost/share so one can figure out if there was a gain or loss on the fractional share sold when new Bell Atlantic stock was issued, is it a simple long term gain/loss or must it be divided between long and short term due to dividend reinvestment [since some of the dividends got reinvested during the short term, less than 18 months]?

If there is a web site or other place to find this information, please point me to it.

Sorry if this is too off-topic, but this is the most likely place for other people who dealt with this issue (if they filed their return on April 15 rather than get an extension, as I did).
