Ramsey - regarding being optimistic all the time (which I am interpreting as assuming stock prices will, over a period of time, trend upward) -- I have never been one who is able to just accept this idea and then "sleep well."

But, something I read once (I think in Forbes, and possibly from Julian Simon (the deceased economist who was the antithesis of Paul Erdman (Erdman was the author of "Zero Population Growth"))) said : do not underestimate the power of a (for now) endlessly growing population to increase the value of stock prices (especially when you realize almost all corporations are financed with both equity and debt).
