I dont know where you get the idea that the art market is dead, or that it is not a good hedge against inflation. In actuality its one of the only inflation friendly, collectable type biz that is quite strong. In actuality a proper portfolio of good 19th century european paintings is outperforming the US market. As to gregs pessimism, Europe is just know getting the investement fever we have seen in USA. In France, Holland, Germany there are much better safer investement oppourtunities. The whole Mutual fund, individual investor trend is in its early phase. It seems to me if you believe in this momentum investement theory you should be in European equities.
