Lucius, I believe you. When the store I visited sold out, the clerk called another local CompUSA store (in our "little town" according to Toy Story) and said it had 70 copies left. All the other stores that sell Windows 98 I visited have copies in the stock. I mentioned the one store that sold out not for proving that Windows 98 is sold like gangbusters but that is not a no-show as dreamed by our fellow ToySoldier, who predictably reacted to my report with more excited jumps ... :) :) :)

My impression is that before Windows 98 was released to the stores more reports were claiming that fewer would be sold, and after that more claiming that it has been selling better than expected.
I don't claim to know how it will end in a few months but you may well be right.
