Why is BKS or BGP not internet companies? They both have great sites with an excellent database. They have inventory to ship too.<< Because Amazon.com has radical and different fundamental business characteristics they sell strickly over the internet, lack of investment in expensive retail real estate and reduced personnel requirements(virtual, electronic), which gives it a meaningful structural economic advantage relative to a traditional retailer i.e., Bks and Bgp. The traditionals are not even classified under internet, nor are they even close to being valued as internet. Yes they compete, but i would not make the mistake of comparing them on a valuation basis. Now whether Bks and Bgp can breakaway from being label as a traditional is very questionable at this point. See what egghead com did. Closed down all their stores to sell strickly over the internet.
