Jbn3, I want to thank you for taking the time necessary in order to clarify your position. I believe that you have made many good points.

Many of my comments about companies and the industry come from personal experience. I have known many companies, some of which I have worked for, that were leaders in their segments for many years. Many, if not most, of the companies are now gone. Some went out of business, others were bought-out. I held senior and executive level positions in a number of companies, so I have some insight into how these companies work. My experiences include the good and bad. I only hope that Dell avoids the land mines that are out there. Its not an easy business, and things are always changing.

Keep in mind, at one time IBM was king of the hill, so was CPQ, just to name two companies. Look at what IBM has gone through, and look at what CPQ is now going through. Do similar situations await Dell? I sure don't know, and certainly hope not.

I am long on Dell, however, I won't turn my back on the company for a moment. As Andy Grove of Intel recently said..."only the paranoid survive".

Have a great and sane fourth.

Happy 4th y'all- Now allow me to back you up-Competition one step behind thank you.

Dellish 3, allow me to repost the following so as to prove once again
what you have told the guy is the truth and nothing but the truth.<g>

Dell seems always a step ahead of the Compaqs of the world whose desperate attempt to emulate Dell so far has proven to be elusive at best.
