G100...Surfing...Virtual Resolution..My own current setup

>>The G810 "only" supports 1600x1200 resolution.???<<

What do you mean. The G810 is multisync and doesn't have high
enough refresh rate at 1600x1200 for it to be usable.

Good point, I can see how my statement could be interpreted in more than one way. My intent was to indicate that 1600 x 1200 is more than adequate for average use (Surfing, Word...). The point is well taken that the monitor should not be used at 1600 x 1200 for the reason given.

I prefer high resolutions and opted for the MII and P815 for my own personal use. The difference in cost between the two monitors in our local outlets is significant (G100 $1000 and the P815 $1400). $400 goes a long way towards the purchase of another toy. An Ultraplex and a Plexwriter come to mind....sorry Spots<g>

What resolution do you use for surfing? I tried 1600 x 1200 and found it difficult to configure the applications for ease of reading. In Netscape you can bump the fonts but not all text increases in size (menus and other applications). I have settled on 1280 x 1024 for my current needs. At this resolution the G100 should prove more than adequate. With the 21 in monitor and 1280 x 1024 resolution I find that I can sit back in my chair and read from a greater distance than I did with my setup on a 17 in monitor.

I am using virtual resolution in Win95 with a desktop size of 1600 x 1280 and a viewing area of 1280 x 1024. I determined this setup through experimentation. I have not been able to achieve this setup in Win98 with the Matrox MII 8MB PCI. Win 98 seems to have affected the way virtual resolution is implemented. Matrox provides a zoom function in Win98 which is virtual resolution. It is hard to get used to and I do not like it at all. This is the primary reason that I have moved back to Win95.

I keep a dozen or so applications (browser windows, notepad, Explorer, Composer) open when I surf. One would loose a lot of viewing area if these occupied the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I keep the taskbar to the right and in a vertical orientation. The bar is about 1 1/2 in wide allowing for enough text to be meaningful.

For graphic applications I max out the resolution. This is where I make use of the P815 capabilities. I have paid a premium for this advantage and I do not use it very much.
