Hi Turboe Happy 4th. I've been away from this thread since last week but I see the debate stills goes on. Let me add two observations: 1) There will never be any attempt on the part of the government of this nation to confiscate weapons from citizens who do not threaten the public order with them. The lone gunowner, who uses his guns for hunting or target practice or keeps them for protection, has nothing to fear. The only possible action to confiscate or disarm gunowners would be directed at groups which appear to be a threat to public safety -- those that blow up buildings or march down the street brandishing weapons or advocate the overthrow of the government. Why? There are simply too many people in power right now who agree with the NRA and other gun supporters. It is unimaginable to me that public opinion in this country will ever shift so far to the gun-control side that confiscation would ever be seriously be conceived. (I'd simply like to see it shift enough to cut down the incredible flow of arms into this country -- arms which often end up in the wrong hands) 2) If there ever were a civil war in this nation over the second amendment, it would be no contest. This is not 1776. Small, disunited groups of militia would stand no chance against the armed forces of the US, and the good soldiers of our military would not disobey orders, no matter what they say in private. The militia groups --overly populated by overweight middle agers like myself -- would be snuffed out in a matter of days. Going to shoot of my cannon for the 4th (at least pretend too) Pat
