The following is the beginning of an interview published in The Wall Street Transcript, dated December 22, 1997. The entire interview will be published over the next few days. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TWST: Give us a brief summary of Stelax Industries. Tell us what the company is about today. Mr. Hardy: Stelax Industries is a company that is in the steel business, but in a special area of stainless steel cladded products. We talk about it as a substitute for solid stainless steel, but it has a broader application. Wherever there is a desire or a need for non-corrosive type of metal with the strength of steel, the Stelax steel is a product that should be considered. It is a patented product covered by some 70 international patents. It is a product that sells for half the price of solid stainless steel. All of the operations are currently in the U.K. in Wales. We prepare the product there and process it through a computer-controlled rolling mill. (The name of the product is "Nuovinox", which is Italian for a new stainless steel). Our intent is to expand the operation into the U.S. with additional facilities and arrangements here. Because of the large market that exists in the U.S. and worldwide, we plan to expand to other countries as well. We don't feel that we have any competition in our price range at this time. The company is well poised to take advantage of what we think is a huge market potential. There are still objectives that we have to meet. This is to get the Stelax steel accepted as a generic name. TWST: What are the barriers or hurdles to marketing this and meeting the long-term goals that you have set for your company? Mr. Hardy: The barrier and the biggest hurdle is, that even though it has all of the attributes of solid stainless steel and sells for a lower price, it is still a different product. The barrier that you have to deal with is getting acceptance of a new product. We have had extensive testing in special laboratories that prove the special characteristics and the claims made. Nevertheless, it is still a new product. As you know, anytime that you bring a new product to the market it takes a period of time for acceptance of the product.
