Minister presses Microsoft for Icelandic Windows
Minister for Education Bj”rn Bjarnason has said the international media are realizing that Icelanders' wish for an Icelandic-language Windows 98 is a "fair and reasonable request".

Microsoft, whose software products run more than 90% of the world's personal computers, has refused to translate Windows 98 into Icelandic. The company claims the tiny Icelandic market does not warrant a translation.

The Danish market, which is at least 20 times bigger than Iceland's, is the smallest market for which Microsoft has authorized a translation of Windows 98.

Bjarnason told Icelandic daily Morgunbladid that recent coverage in the LA Times and on the BBC of the matter was "all part of drawing the attention of Microsoft management to the issue".

The minister also said he had received information which led him to believe that Microsoft were beginning to respond favorably to requests for an Icelandic version of the software.
