John: I agree with your post about shorting.

I personally do not engage in it, either.
One reason is that I disagree with what I consider the underlying philosophy of it, (wanting things to fail) but people short, and make a lot of money.
However, I feel that the SEC facilitates manipulation by not requiring that the short positions on all stocks be revealed to investors.
I also think it should be a bimonthly report.
It is all done by computers, now.
There would be no extra work involved.
Maybe if enough people register their dissatisfaction, things will change.
