Lately I have really begun to wonder whether Japan will pull out of their economic problems or whether they really want to. They may just gradually fade back into isolationism. The economic competition in the 21st century could be intense with a unified China (China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong), the EEU, and a coalition of the US, Great Britain, Canada, and Australia. Japan doesn't have the resources or allies to compete on such a scale.
