>>>That Microsoft can charge $90 to fix the defects of an earlier product speaks volumes about monopoly pricing and arrogance <<<<

Ernie, Windows 98 is a new version of windows, it has new features and is an improvement over Windows 95. Microsoft kept the price the same as Windows 95. Buyers of new computers get Windows 98 instead of Windows 95 at no additional cost. did you want Windows98 to be free?
Do you also expect free lifetime replacement automobiles after you once buy one? The newer cars have more features and correct problems from previous years. but the "arrogant" auto companies charge just as much for a 1998 as they did for a 1995, maybe even more. No one is forcing you to buy an upgraded OS or an upgraded automobile. Would it have been better to not improve windows95 at all and new computer buyers not ever have the extra features in windows98? If you already have Windows95 you get Win98 for half price. but only *IF* you want to. otherwise continue to drive your '95.

My apologies if you were just pointing out that simpletons article and did not agree with it..
