regarding floating point dsp's
MY understanding is that at the high end dsp cores that ADI's sharc floating point is taking business from TI. With the availability of C67x floating point from TI they will leap frog ADI. I agree also re the need for speed memeory size to all increase while cost is bound to come down.

New TMS320C54x DSPs from TI Combine Industry's Lowest Power Dissipation with Highest Performance in Smallest Space
HOUSTON (June 29, 1998) -- Two new digital signal
processors from Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) combine
the industry's lowest power dissipation with 100 MIPS of
performance into a package the size of a thumbnail. These
power-efficient, ultra-small DSPs, designated the
TMS320C549 and the TMS320C5410, will enable designers of
wireless and wireline communications systems to provide
more channels per watt than any other DSPs on the market.

I see TI being in the best position: talent, vision, money and great third party support to grow their market share develop new applications and be a growth company although with a narrow focus ie dsp. All comments welcome. I'd like to see some of the EE discuss some of the merits of the dsp companies current and future. BTW I also own stock in ADI and SSPIF. ie not all my eggs in one basket. I like ADI alot but given their size I think they will need to partner/merge or will losse out with time all IMO
